Name: Sappho Renenutet Duncannon Birthday: 13 November, 1959 House: Slytherin Year: 5th year Heritage: Pureblood (if you don't count a wee bit of hag, shh!) Pet: Barn owl named Fuu Wand: Rosewood and Veela hair, 9 1/2 inches, inflexible Physical Appearance: Sappho does have a very nice figure and is obsessed with her appearance. She wears heavy make-up, which along with her hair, she constantly fusses over. She has wavy, auburn tresses she keeps boyishly short. Along with hazel eyes, she is very pale. Her exaggerated black eye-liner and red lipstick make her complexion even ghastlier. (Some tease her by saying she looks like a clown.) Her body is somewhat awkward. She has scrawny arms that are a bit too long for her frame, slightly muscular legs, a sharp nose and chin, cupid's bow lips, an arched back, a sinuous figure, bigger than average feet, and is of medium height (about 5'7"). She has a high voice with such a sibilant lisp that she must take care not to spit when talking. Biography: Sappho Duncannon is a fifth year Slytherin at Hogwarts. Her parents are Himerus Duncannon and Libitina Pìdàraigh. She never knew her mother, as Himerus divorced her when Sappho was still a baby. Libitina had become an alcoholic soon after giving birth and he threw her out, citing their daughter's well-being. She died obscurely, in a squalid, under-staffed wizard sanitorium. He, on the other hand, became a well-known, if not notorious dark wizard. This was aided by rumours that he had actually murdered his wife. Mr Duncannon has never been involved with Voldemort (he's too egotistical to take orders from someone else), hates the Ministry for all their rules, and complains that he could run things better. However, he prefers to write books and travel than act on this. Because he is surprisingly intelligent and talented, most people are happy not to tangle with him. Many are afraid of him, others just call him a self-absorbed brat, and some deeply respect him. None of this matters to Mr Duncannon, he does and says whatever he pleases. He has shaped his daughter greatly and she admires him. Sappho longs to be as extroverted and self-assured as her father. Mr Duncannon raised and home-schooled Sappho in a remote Scottish house (however, they did travel several times), so she never actually learned to interact socially with her peers. Once accepted at Hogwarts, she was picked on for having a lisp and a "creepy dad." She became isolated and somewhat bitter, thus she immersed herself in books and classes. Now she has found herself very lonely. Wanting her house-mates to like her and resentful of being made fun of in the past, she has become an antagonist. Sappho's flying skills are fair, but in general brooms scare her. She hates Quidditch, save for the Slytherin team. Her hobbies are fortune-telling and writing poetry. She is also fascinated by the Dark Arts and other magical taboos, an interest encouraged her father. He went so far as to take her abroad so that she'd have a wand made by someone more open-minded about his craft than Ollivander. This is how she ended up with a Veela hair core. Her personality is rather nasty and her temper, short. Sappho feels inadequate and is embarrassed easily. She hates most anyone who is not in Slytherin and especially loves being rude to Gryffindors, but feigns innocence around teachers. She has difficulty talking to her house-mates due to her insecurities, so insulting non-Slytherins has become her ice-breaker. Idolising her father, she likes to rub his "fame" in people's faces. Sappho does well in most of her classes (Mr Duncannon would be furious if she didn't), but only really enjoys Divination and Potions (in spite of Slughorn's disapproval of her). She is mildly interested in Voldemort. If her situation took a turn for the worse, she would be very tempted to join him. Likes: Beauty potions, books, divination, scary animals, fancy robes, dark magic, and a Slytherin bloke with an intimidating scowl. Dislikes: That Evans cow, Muggles, the Ministry of Magic, inept professors, flying, maths, and people she considers to be below her (namely, a certain foursome of Gryffindor boys). Extracurricular Activities: None, she prefers to read or harrass non-Slytherins and brag about her father. Romantic history: Sappho is pretty enough that boys often ask her out, despite her infamously cruel reactions. In truth, she has secretly fancied Severus Snape since their very first day at Hogwarts. She finds Severus to be incredibly handsome (in her opinion), brilliant, witty, powerful, strong, talented, and sensitive. At the moment, Sappho is convinced that what she feels for him is true love.
